In order for an animal to qualify for Hopcott Specialty Beef, that animal, at no time, may be implanted with growth additives, hormones or steroids.  Our cattle are fed a specially formulated vegetarian diet of the cleanest and highest quality grown grain and a mixture of our own hay and corn silage.


Any facility an animal passes through, from birth to harvest, will have been inspected, on-site, by a veterinarian.  This registered vet can, at any time, make unscheduled visits to take feed samples, to inspect the animals for implants & to take urine samples.


When born on 1 of 3 ranches in the Interior of B.C., every animal receives a special ear tag.  Along with the ear tag, each animal will be recorded in paper form with ranch name of birth, ear tag number & birthdate. Everytime an animal is moved to our farm, and everytime an animal is harvested, this is recorded, including date, where the animal came from & ear tag number.


Also, at harvest, every single animal is inspected by a veterinarian to ensure that it has never received any growth hormones.  After harvest, the sides of beef are transported to our butcher shop where the beef is hung on the rail and dry aged 21 to 28 days, an uncommon practice in the industry, which results in tender, tastier beef.


All of the above efforts are taken to ensure that every time our customers buy beef from us, they are getting a consistent, healthy, tender, quality product.
